Group Trail Run
Join Purcell Outdoors and fellow local trail runners for a group trail run exploring Kimberley’s stunning trails. We’ll be taking scenic routes with a pace around 7-8km per hour, featuring some rolling hills to keep things interesting. Lace up your trail shoes, bring your sense of adventure, and let’s hit the trails together!
Group Hikes
Three hikes of various difficulties are proposed for the Outdoor Connect event.
Expert: The Ski Hill Hike is a leg burner. It goes straight up the old T-bar route at the Kimberley Alpine Resort. From the Conference Center, this two-kilometre sweat-fest offers 500 meters of elevation gain and takes you to the Kootenay House at nearly 1,800 metres above sea level. From the top, the view of the Hughes Range of the Rocky Mountains across the Rocky Mountain Trench is stunning.
Moderate: Moe’s Canyon is mellower but still requires fitness. It’s about six kilometres long with a bit of a wild feel to it. To access the canyon we will park at the Kimberley Nordic Centre and find the obvious trail heading up hill. We’ll follow this for about ten minutes, keeping to the right and then will hit Boundary ski run. We’ll walk up the left side of the run and keep an eye out for a trail leading left into the canyon before the ski run begins to steepen. A good trail leads through the canyon to the south end where we can turn around and go back the way we came, or take a hard left up onto the ridge on another good trail that will lead us back to the Nordic centre.
Easy: For those who are interested in walking and talking, join KORE Executive Director Kevin Pennock on a mellow stroll along the Nordic ski trails near the Conference Centre. This is intended to be a casual foray during which participants can walk four-wide if they want and chat without getting winded.
Climbing at Spirit Rock Climbing Centre
Located in the downtown Kimberley plaztl, Spirit Rock Climbing Centre is offering a free group climbing session for KORE participants from 3:30 to 5:00pm. Only 10 spots are available for this event. To book a spot, please sign up at KORE Info Kiosk at Kimberley Conference Centre expo area on Thursday, October 3. Bring your own gear or rent a harness and shoes at the Centre.
