We are a manufacturer of snowboards and powder surfers.
Give us a brief description of your manufacturing processes and philosophy
We use a CNC router to machine our forms and the cores of the boards. The boards are then laid up, pressed and finished by hand. Our aim is to deliver a truly hand-made product that is tailored to perform in our mountains.
How many employees and/or contractors do you work with?
None, the whole process is performed in house by the founders.
What brought you to the Kootenays and how long have you been here?
Tell us about the history and relative work experience of your founder(s).
I (Jonathan) have a background in aerospace manufacturing and am a toolmaker/machinist by trade. I aim to bring high-end composite materials and aerospace manufacturing philosophies to small volume snowboard production. Lois is a management accountant by day and a first class snowboard layup operator by night, she also manages our accounts and keeps us heading in the right direction.
Describe the mission, vision, goals, and aspirations of your company.
Starlight’s mission is to deliver a high-end product that will keep customers grinning from ear to ear all day on the hill. We continue to develop our product line revising shapes and construction. For the 2021 season we hope to offer our 3D hull powdersurfers to the public after years of refining the product and build process. We hope our company will continue to grow organically, that we’ll keep making new friends through the business and we’ll have many more snowboarding adventures.
