Shishka Outdoors

Shishka specializes in producing high-quality sleeping bags and accessories for both adults and children.

Give us a brief description of your manufacturing processes and philosophy

At Shishka, we prioritize sourcing high-quality materials while minimizing the use of chemicals. Our sleeping bags are filled with RDS (Responsible Down Standard) certified down, ensuring ethical and sustainable practices throughout our production process.

How many employees and/or contractors do you work with?

We are currently cooperating with four different contractors overseas. We have no employees, as we are a small, family-operated business (me and my husband).

What brought you to the Kootenays and how long have you been here?

Originally from Europe, we relocated to Nelson from Squamish seven years ago. As avid skiers, climbers, and bikers, our primary motivation was to be closer to the excellent ski resort and the stunning mountain ranges of the Kootenays.

Tell us about the history and relative work experience of your founder(s).

In Europe (and later in Squamish) I spent nearly a decade working in the production departments of various outdoor companies. This role allowed me to gain valuable experience in all aspects of product development and final production, particularly through direct involvement in manufacturing processes in China. This extensive background provided me with the expertise to create my own line of sleeping bags.

Describe the mission, vision, goals, and aspirations of your company.

Our mission is to fill a gap in the market by providing high-quality sleeping bags specifically designed for kids. We aim to support young families by offering sleeping bags that are lightweight, very warm, and easily compressible, making them perfect for multi-day hiking trips. Additionally, our goal is to make these sleeping bags affordable without compromising on quality, ensuring they can be passed down through generations.
