Rod Sprocket Canada Ltd.

Rod Sprocket manufactures all-terrain fishing rod holders. Our rod holder is designed for the shore fisherman, utilizing a strap and design that allows the Rod Sprocket to be attached in any orientation to virtually anything. Boulders, tackle box/bags, coolers, camping chairs, driftwood, belly boats and pontoon boats are a few applications just to give you an idea. This was the first product we designed and patented, although we are coming out with more products very soon. We are about to launch a test product to see how the market reacts. Rod Sprocket will be introducing the ‘Sinker Sack’, a lead-free weight system that allows for much less contamination to our waters while still providing a quality line weight system specifically used in bottom fishing applications. Our Sinker Sack is made from paper, so it will degrade in water if the line is broken. It also has the capability to tear away if snagged on bottom increasing the return of your hook and set up. The Sinker Sack allows you to use a rock from the ground as your weight!

Give us a brief description of your manufacturing processes and philosophy

Our Rod Sprocket is manufactured by way of plastic injection moulding. We use HDPE (High Density Poly-Ethylene) for the body and Nylon for the pins. The plastic is melted, then injected into our mould under thousands of p.s.i of pressure, cooled and then released form the mould. Someone then assembles the pieces and strap. All of the parts we use on our Rod Sprocket are sourced from Canadian companies, and our manufacturing process is done in Canada as well. We believe in doing what we can to keep Canadian money working for Canada.

How many employees and/or contractors do you work with?

There are four employees:

We source the manufacturing of the majority of our product to a Canadian injection mould facility.

What brought you to the Kootenays and how long have you been here?

I came here for work about 10 years ago, fell in love with the area and moved here about two years later.

Tell us about the history and relative work experience of your founder(s).

Garry has a background in railcar maintenance and certification as well as in the oilfield, which is where we met. And I have a background in plumbing and municipal utilities as well as an oilfield background.

Describe the mission, vision, goals, and aspirations of your company.

Our goal is simple: We love to fish and tinker. We just wanted to make fishing gear more practical. That’s really the only reason we are where we are today. There was nothing on the market for what we were looking for, so we created it! If we can keep the momentum going we have many other ideas to bring to market, but one step at a time.
