Out There Gear Repair

Out There Gear Repair is based in the outdoor mecca of Revelstoke, British Columbia and does local, specialized sewing repairs. If it’s made of technical fabric or is meant for outdoor use, I probably can fix it! Repairs such as zippers, blown seams, patches, hardware replacement, alterations, and customizations are common.

Give us a brief description of your manufacturing processes and philosophy

I am super passionate about technical gear repair, because it’s about more than just the repair: it’s a way to live our values, show brands and corporations what we want (namely long-lasting, durable and repairable gear), and it tells the story of all our adventures and misadventures with every stitch.

How many employees and/or contractors do you work with?

It’s just me! I am fortunate to have the support of my fiancée, friends, and other great local businesses.

What brought you to the Kootenays and how long have you been here?

I moved to Revelstoke with my Canadian fiancée in May 2025 after spending a few years chasing summers between New Zealand (my birth country) and British Columbia. Like a lot of people here, I was drawn to the Kootenays by the lifestyle. The balance of community, nature, and adventure is very special. I love how many driven people the Kootenays’ attract. The passion for life here is infectious.

Tell us about the history and relative work experience of your founder(s).

I was lucky enough to learn to sew from my mum as a child. When I was 16, I studied for a diploma of Adventure Tourism for two years. After that, I spent the next nine years as a whitewater rafting guide during the summers and working various different roles in outdoor apparel retail, tourism management, outdoor education, and commerce in the off seasons. Part way through this time, while completing a diploma in Commerce from the University of Canterbury, I rediscovered my passion of sewing and repair through volunteering at my local repair cafe. Since then I have continued to up my skill level by working as an industrial sewing machinist at a local production facility as well as through self-teaching.

Describe the mission, vision, goals, and aspirations of your company.

My mission is to extend the life of gear and keep it in use for as long as possible. I want to bring awareness to the value and power of repair.
