Give us a brief description of your manufacturing processes and philosophy.
GOSO strives to make high-quality kitchen equipment that will last a lifetime. All of our products are designed and tested in the Pacific Northwest and Western Canada regions. We would like to re-shore our manufacturing as much as possible, while at the same time making high-quality products accessible to our customer.
How many employees and/or contractors do you work with?
Currently we are a one-person company and I’m sourcing factories for production and working with Selkirk Technology Access Centre at Selkirk College to develop product components.
What brought you to the Kootenays and how long have you been here?
Fifteen years ago I did a summer building course in Kimberly with College of the Rockies. I wanted to pursue timber frame carpentry and shred real pow for the first time in my life, and a friend told me Nelson was the place for me. They were right.
Tell us about the history and relative work experience of your founder(s).
Growing up canoe camping with my family and playing in the forests with my friends, time in the outdoors has been part of my life from the very beginning. When not in the outdoors, we would often have family and friends over for big dinners. My love of making food started early too. I went on to get an honour’s degree in camping (Outdoor Rec, Parks and Tourism) from Lakehead University, and guided students and youth-at-risk through four seasons of outdoor adventures. Moving to British Columbia, I became a shop teacher, which introduced me to the world of design and fabrication. Through all this, I’ve loved to cook and eat good food. In 2018, I started a YouTube channel to show people who camp off their motorcycles how to cook good meals. It was there that I grew really dissatisfied with the current offerings of camp cookware and I felt like there were probably other people who had similar problems. After discovering French carbon-steel cookware, I knew it could be a solution to the problem and GOSO Cookware was born.
Describe the mission, vision, goals, and aspirations of your company.
GOSO’s mission is in our name: we want people to Get Outside and Stay Outside. We believe that sharing a great meal with good people in the outdoors builds better connections to each other and the natural world. We want to help out. GOSO Cookware not only provides quality cookware that makes cooking a joy, but also acts as a community hub giving people a place to connect, share, and be inspired with all things camp cooking.
