Après Skied has found creative ways to repurpose skis and snowboards, by up-cycling them into cribbage boards, coaster sets, belt buckles and more.
Give us a brief description of your manufacturing processes and philosophy.
Après Skied is a company where skis go when they’re done, but not dead yet. We’ve created fun ways to keep your old sticks out of the landfills and out in the open for all to enjoy and reminisce upon for many years to come. Each cribbage board is a team effort, handcrafted with love. For example, with the cribbage boards, Brett cuts up the skis and drills 391 holes and Michelle hand draws the numbers and lines.
How many employees and/or contractors do you work with?
We (Brett and Michelle) are the Après Skied team.
What brought you to the Kootenays and how long have you been here?
This beautiful community offered the outdoor lifestyle we were looking for with a housing market we could afford. We have been in Kimberley since 2017.
Tell us about the history and relative work experience of your founder(s).
Skiing is in our blood. Both of us started skiing at a young age and it will always be a part of our identities. In fact, our passion for skiing is what brought us together. We met in 2012 and fell in love at Mustang Powder Lodge (home to some of the best cat-skiing on the planet) where we both worked as tail-guide/drivers. Brett has worked in the ski industry for 30 years as a snowcat operator mainly for Lake Louise Ski Area and Mustang Powder Cat Skiing.
Describe the mission, vision, goals, and aspirations of your company.
At Après Skied it is our mission to turn old and broken skis into functional, artistic, conversation pieces. We take skis that would otherwise be taking up valuable room in the garage or (not) decaying in the landfills, and turn them into works of art commemorating your favourite makes and models or saving some of the amazing artwork found on many top sheets. There are still parts of the skis that we aren’t using but we are constantly looking for new ways to use more and waste less.
