Kootenay Approved & Inspired:

Meet Dylan of Lynx OGT

Lynx OGT was launched five years ago and in that time the headlamps have been embraced by some of the most dedicated outdoors people in the world. This is why.

Dylan Bucher (pictured below) says the acronym in the name of his company Lynx OGT stands for “Off-Grid Technology.” It’s appropriate given he operates the business from a historic, off-grid cabin near Kootenay Lake. “We believe in outdoor freedom for our users,” Dylan continues. “We design high-performance, rechargeable headlamps to unlock the night for mountain sports and to enhance the modern, off-grid lifestyle.”

It’s obviously working because his headlamps are now used by everyone from hobby farmers to professional athletes. Below is our conversation with Dylan about Lynx OGT and why it’s Kootenay Approved.

Hey Dylan, thanks for chatting with us. First question: what makes your business unique?

We run the business from an old, off-grid cabin, using solar power and StarLink internet. Testing of our products is done right in the backyard! The thing that differentiates our products is that we use the best individual components for real-world performance in the mountains.

What are some awards, accolades, or milestones you’ve achieved since starting your business?

Gaining the recognition and endorsement from outdoor legends has been amazing.

How do the Kootenays help shape the work you do?

Being located in the Kootenays makes sure we keep cold weather performance a key design consideration in all of our products.

What’s the best part about living in the Kootenays?

That an adventure can happen at any time!

What are your favourite outdoor pursuits to do in the Kootenays? Where do you do them?

Backcountry pow surfing, daytime or at night, in the mountains around Nelson. Also, floating down the Slocan river on a hot summer day.

What’s next for your company?

Continuing to improve our headlamps. We have also been experimenting with some new titanium alloy products.
